Youths Take A Stand
typography, print, layout design, mixed media
Using type to embody injustices, movements and amazing young kids.
I was challenged to create a series of posters. These would serve as advertising for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s interactive exhibit “Youths Take A Stand: 3 Social Movements”. The exhibit was to cover the Newsboys strike of 1899, Little Rock Nine, and the March For Our Lives. I experimented plenty until I found the concept that rang the loudest.

From this point I had found my concept: these movements were lead by more. Despite their intensity, seriousness and impact the running core cause and issues of these youth-led movements could be boiled down into one symbol. In addition to these symbols, the issues tore us as people and as a country apart-much like that of a ripping photograph. These ideas were implemented as I weaved a relationship between type and image to create something eye-catching and rich in meaning.
